National Reading Awareness Month

Books - NRAMGreetings to all who stumble upon this page or who are gracious enough to have followed my blog. I’m sure I have stated this before, but I have a terrible time of posting regularly, whether it be blog posts, random bits of poetry, or uploads of current art projects. As senior year of college has come and is quickly fleeting, my time has been consumed with studies, working two jobs, volunteering at two schools for Five Star, preparing for grad school (crazy story for another day), and trying to keep myself sane. It’s been an amazing and difficult time, and the new year just keeps flying by. Welcome to March my friends, which brings me to the point of this post.

March is National Reading Awareness Month!

To celebrate National Reading Awareness Month I am going to be posting (semi)regularly for the month of March. The focus will be on the history of the holiday (if it can be called that), the importance of literacy and being an active reader, and how to be a good literary citizen. I also want to encourage you to get involved in the festivities of reading. If you are a parent, commit to reading to your child(ren) for 15 minutes a day. This can be a great way to bond with your child(ren), and it will help them to be better readers and students. You can also commit to reading more yourself or encourage your friends to read more during this month. Post about what you’re reading on Facebook. Start a Goodreads account, and review books you’ve read. There are so many options for how you can celebrate National Reading Awareness Month. Check back here for more ways you can get involved and to see what I’m doing to celebrate. Until then, get reading!
